STUDIO BINAT is a new york–based design studio creating works of art and design grounded in Mexican craft and contemporary form.

Each piece is designed in New York City and handcrafted in collaboration with master artisans across Mexico, honoring traditional techniques while pushing boundaries.

The result is a collection of bold, textural pieces that blur the line between art and function, rich in story, spirit, and intention.

At Studio Binat, each piece is more than a design object.

It carries a living tradition and honors the people who keep it alive. Too often, artists like Pedro Hernández are underpaid and overlooked, even as they carry forward techniques passed down through generations.

We’ve built a model that goes beyond a flat fee. Instead, we share the value our work creates with the Hernández family, ensuring they benefit not just from their craftsmanship, but from the value it brings.

When you choose a piece from Studio Binat, you’re not just acquiring an object, You’re becoming part of a larger story. a story rooted in cultural preservation, fair collaboration, and shared respect

In the highlands of Michoacán, in the small town of San José de Gracia, lives a man whose hands shape not just clay, but memory.

Pedro Hernández is a celebrated ceramicist and one of the most revered artisans working in the tradition of ‘barro vidriado’ , glazed clay pottery, that has passed through generations of his family.

A descendant of the Purépecha people, Pedro learned the art of ceramics in the way it was always meant to be learned: through the rhythm of daily work, the guidance of elders, and the language of the land.

Alongside his wife Isabel and their children, he creates ART that holdS both history and imagination. Each piece is a conversation between tradition and the world around him.

Made from local mountain clay, pedro’s pieces are shaped entirely by hand and fired inwood-fueled ground kilns- a process that is rarely practiced today. Some of his pieces take weeks of slow, intentional work to complete and stand over a meter tall.
